To experience the ultimate highlights of Luxor in a single day, start early on the West Bank at the Valley of the Kings to explore the brilliantly decorated rock-cut royal tombs before the intense midday heat and crowds arrive. Next, make the short drive to the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut to admire its striking, multi-tiered limestone terraces built directly into the towering desert cliffs , a vision of geometrical colonnades hewn into a Cliffside. Learn about the temple\u2019s history and life of Queen Hatshepsut, Egypt\u2019s the famous female ruler. Stroll around the courtyards and terraces, and admire the statues and hieroglyphics that adorn them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, stop for photos at the Colossi of Memnon: two towering statues of the Pharaoh Amenhotep III, that once stood at his now long-gone funerary temple. Hear the stories and legends that surround the statues, and inspect the Roman-era graffiti engraved in the stone.
